SUEANNE CAMPBELL

Program Director and Teacher

My name is Sueanne Campbell. I am a retired Waldorf kindergarten teacher of 30 years. I was previously employed at The Lake Champlain Waldorf School here in Shelburne. I have two sons who are 29 and 25, both Waldorf educated. After teaching for so long, I needed a break from the responsibilities of running a school, and I Ieft classroom teaching in 2018. After that, I provided in-home part-time daycare to infants and young toddlers, as well as elder care. I also started and ran my own Waldorf mixed-age Kindergarten with a small “Covid pod” for the 2020-2021 school year in Charlotte, Vermont. I am entering my second year as the director of Suma's Kinderhouse.

When I became aware that there was a need for a kinder-program in our area, I was excited about the idea of once again having a program for young children in my own home. I previously had a Nursery during the time that my children were young.  My work is to create a magical world where children have a home away from home, have access to nature, and experience growing and learning in a small group of children with an experienced Waldorf teacher.

I am excited and look forward to beginning new relationships with you and your children! If you have any questions please contact me.

Warmly,

Sueanne Campbell

( aka: Suma)

What parents are saying:

"It's hard to overstate what a remarkable teacher, leader and presence Sueanne is. She was attentive to every last detail in our impromptu five-girl schoolhouse, creating a magical learning and experiential environment, giving the children a clear sense that they were loved and cared for, and instilling in them their responsibilities toward one another and toward the earth. Every day, regardless of the weather, she led them in cooking, nature walks, play and quiet time. In an anxious pandemic year that threw us endless curveballs, she was a source of peace, calm, order and warmth."

"Sueanne has made such a difference in our family’s life. She has the knowledge and depth of experience of a long term educator and the heart and warmth of a dear friend." She has made such strong connections to our children. They love her, and feel totally comfortable to be their true selves with her. She knows just how to bring out the best in them and move through the day with a balance of grounded comfort and lots of joyful wonder too—just what I want for my kids days to be filled with. I have noticed that she has a deep respect for the children in her care, and also has firm boundaries that hold them safely."

— Lindsay F.

“The amount of nature and calm that was incorporated into my childhood from Sueanne sticks with me to this day. I am who I am because of the care I got as a wee one from Sueanne. She makes an impact. If I had children, they would go to Sumas!”

— Madeline V.  (Former student)
